Walkie Talkie recommendations

If you know make/models you can recommend, please do.

I am looking for 2 types.

1. set in the bug out bag for close communication
2. 3-4 with long range capability for storage -- 1 with me, 1 at relative, 1 with friend etc for use if SHTF.

TIA

1-2 at the minimum. Preferably more, but I do not know anything about this subject and what capacity exists.

Don’t know if this will help or not, but the Little Rascals managed with two empty cans and a string.

Try these. All the advantages of GMRS/FRS, but without the heavy traffic:

If 4-5 miles suits you, there are many available. Uniden makes a pair I owned and was very happy with. The batteries lasted me about 15 hours at sub zero temps. Sorry, I don't have them any more, so I can't advise of the part number. But the set only ran me $70.

If you need more than 5 miles, look to short wave radio. These can shoot thousands of miles. They're also likely to be a source of information should the gubbermint establish a media blackout. The radios are cheap and canrun for days on a single set of batteries. You will need to learn how to use them, and to establish a communications channel in advance.

You need to do some reading on amateur radio.

It seems I was mistaken. Spoke with my uncle who had the system I was thinking of. It wasn't shortwave. It was a relay system. We used it to reach a guy in Mexico from Sask. He says it would not offer significant range in a SHTF situation.

My appologies.:signs14:
